Citizenship application tracker: how to check your status

IRCC uses a citizenship tracker account for people applying to become Canadian citizens. You can only check your status after you get your acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) letter or email. To create an account, you need your unique client identifier (UCI), your application number and the email address in your application. Pass15 is an independent study site, not IRCC, so we can't see or check your application.

Checked against canada.ca on November 1, 2026. Rules can change, so confirm on canada.ca before you act.

First, wait for your acknowledgement of receipt (AOR)

You can only check your application status after you receive your AOR letter or email. IRCC sends it after it receives your application and checks that it's complete. It can take some time to get it.Source: canada.ca, How to check the status of your IRCC application (opens in a new tab)

If you apply online, IRCC receives your application right after you submit it, and you get an email right away that confirms you submitted it. This email is not the AOR. You get the AOR after IRCC checks that your application is complete.

If you apply on paper, you have to wait for IRCC to receive your application by mail. If you have a tracking number from a courier or postal service, you can check if your application was delivered.

If you still haven't received your AOR, canada.ca says your application may be incomplete and on its way back to you, or going through further review before IRCC starts processing it.

What you need to create a tracker account

To become a Canadian citizen (a "grant of citizenship"), adults and minors check their status in a citizenship tracker account. Start from canada.ca's "How to check your application status" page and choose Citizenship, then the grant of citizenship.Source: canada.ca, How to check the status of your IRCC application (opens in a new tab)

  • Your unique client identifier (UCI).
  • Your application number. It is in your AOR letter or email.
  • The email address you gave in your citizenship application. IRCC sends a verification code to this address, and you need the code to create a password for your account.
  • A Chrome, Safari or Firefox web browser.

If you have a representative or changed your email

If you have a representative, IRCC emails the verification code to them, and you need to ask your representative to check your status for you. Representatives sign in with a party ID instead of a UCI.Source: canada.ca, How to check the status of your IRCC application (opens in a new tab)

canada.ca says to contact IRCC if you changed your email address or couldn't give an email address in your application. If you need to change your contact information, keep checking your old contact information until IRCC updates your application. Don't send changes by mail: IRCC won't update your application, and it could delay it.

Seeing your citizenship test in the tracker

You can use the tracker to confirm that your test invitation is on its way. Look at the "Citizenship test" section. The status In progress means IRCC has scheduled your test and you'll get your invitation soon.Source: canada.ca, Wait for a test invitation (opens in a new tab)

Invitations usually arrive at least 2 to 3 business days before your test start date. You can't book the test yourself or contact IRCC to get an invitation.

Waiting for your invitation is a good time to study. Our free practice tests and chapter quizzes follow the official study guide, Discover Canada.

What the tracker can't tell you

IRCC says it can't give you more information than what is already in the tracker. To see how long applications are taking right now, use IRCC's "Check processing times" tool.Source: canada.ca, How to check the status of your IRCC application (opens in a new tab)

If you have a question about your application, you can use IRCC's web form, or ask through your online account if you have one. Use the web form to tell IRCC about changes such as marriage, a new passport or a new phone number, even if you applied online.
